Life is Not Fair

Posted on: February 13, 2012

I was going to write a post about the same old shit. Whining about my life, being single, getting dumped on facebook, how stupid Valentine’s Day is…. Blah blah blah. Maybe inject some humor so it didn’t read the same as all the others.

Then I called home and my mom asked if I’d talked to my sister and she said it in that mom-way, where you know something is wrong and immediately I worried about about my niece and nephew…  my mom told me that the daughter of my sister’s friend was crossing the street yesterday and got hit by a police car en-route to a burglary in process. She died last night.

This little girl was 12. She loved my niece and nephew and they loved her. They played together just a few weeks ago. And she got hit by a car while she was crossing the street, trying to go to a grocery store.

She had her whole life ahead of her and it was cut so short by a stupid accident. She has a little sister who’ll grow up without her. She was walking with her cousin, who will forever have to live with the memory of what she saw. Her parents will always wonder what she would’ve been, how she would’ve grown up – they’ll think of her daily and miss her smile and hugs and kisses. She was so lovely and sweet already — my parents had met her last year and adored her. Everyone who met her loved her.

Life’s not fair in so many ways, but the death of a child seems to the most cruel.
